Overview

Real London in the morning, the sets after lunch

Most Harry Potter day trips from London take you straight to the studio and back. We start in the city instead, because three of the places from the films are within two miles of each other. You walk through Leadenhall Market to the door that played the Leaky Cauldron, cross the Thames on the Millennium Bridge that the Death Eaters twist apart in Half-Blood Prince, and stand at the trolley in the wall at King's Cross before the afternoon crowd arrives.

After lunch our van drives you to Leavesden for the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, The Making of Harry Potter. We buy your ticket for the public tour, and you have three to four hours inside: the Great Hall, Diagon Alley, the Hogwarts Express on its platform, the Forbidden Forest and the castle model. Oliver Pryce or one of our London leaders guides the day, and the group is capped at 12.

  • What can change

Filming, events and closures can move a stop or close an interior on the day. Your leader swaps in another location nearby and tells you why.

Your tour leader: Oliver Pryce

Tour leader, London

Practical information

Before you go on the Harry Potter day in London

Your confirmation, with the pickup point and the tour leader's phone number, arrives when you book. Weather, airports and the best months are on the Britain page.

  • Meeting point

Leadenhall Market at 8:30 a.m., at the Gracechurch Street entrance. Bank and Monument stations are each about 5 minutes away on foot.

  • Weekdays only

We run the day on weekdays, when Leadenhall Market is open and King's Cross has fewer day-trippers than on Saturdays.

  • Weather

Most of the day is indoors. The morning walk is outdoors, so bring a light rain jacket; London can rain on any day of the year.

  • At the studio

Bags go through a security check. Photos are allowed everywhere inside. There is a cafe halfway round, and the shop is at the end of the tour.

Tour FAQ

Harry Potter day in London: questions and answers

Is the studio ticket included?

Yes. Your ticket for the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, The Making of Harry Potter, is in the price. We buy it for the public tour; we have no special arrangement with the studio.

Why is the day tour paid in full?

Because we buy your studio ticket as soon as you book, and those tickets cannot be refunded. You can change your date once, free, up to 30 days before.

Can I skip the morning and join at the studio?

Not on this tour, because the van leaves from King's Cross. If you only want the studio, the official coaches from central London and the shuttle bus from Watford Junction station are good options.

Will the line at Platform 9 3/4 take long?

Before noon on a weekday it is usually 10 to 30 minutes. If it is very long, your leader gives you a choice: wait, or take a photo of the trolley from the side and keep the time for lunch.

Is the Millennium Bridge in the film the real one?

Yes, the bridge itself is real, though its destruction was done with visual effects. You walk across it as Londoners do every day.

Can children join?

This tour is designed for adults and older teens. Families with younger children often prefer to go straight to the studio tour at their own pace.
